Summary

Peloton says more than 50% of monthly active users engage with Peloton IQ AI coach recommendations, but it has tied no usage figure to retention or subscription revenue.

Peloton (PTON) said on its August 6, 2026 earnings call that more than 50% of its monthly active users are engaging with training recommendations from Peloton IQ, its AI personalized coach, and that each member receives three to five of them a week[1]. That confirms how widely the feature is used. The company has not yet given any number for its effect on member retention or subscription revenue.

What Peloton sells, and where Peloton IQ sits

Peloton Interactive, Inc. (PTON) is a US connected fitness company. It sells home fitness equipment with screens, such as exercise bikes and treadmills, and then charges members a monthly subscription fee. Members train along with classes led by human instructors, and subscription fees make up the main part of the company's revenue.

Peloton IQ is the AI personalized coach built into those products. It is available to every member, whether they use the new Cross Training Series, the older Original Series equipment, or only an app subscription[2]. It reads a member's fitness goals, class history and health data from wearable devices, builds a training plan and keeps adjusting it, and regularly pushes training recommendations. On the Plus models, which carry a camera, it can also count reps automatically during strength training, correct form and suggest weights[2]. The training experience is what Peloton sells to members, so this feature sits inside the company's core business.

From Personalized Plans to Peloton IQ

Public disclosure of this application starts with the May 8, 2025 earnings call. Peloton said it had launched Personalized Plans to all members in January of that year. The chief executive called it the most exciting way the company is using AI: assembling classes taught by human instructors into an individual program so that the product works more like a personal trainer[3].

The first turn was an upgrade and a new name. Peloton IQ, launched on October 1, kept the same training-plan use case and widened the inputs to fitness goals and wearable data[2]. The second turn came on February 5, 2026, when the company gave usage figures for Peloton IQ itself for the first time and placed camera-based form guidance under the same personalized coach[4]. By August 6, 2026, management had set deeper personalization as the next step: supporting a wider or even open-ended range of fitness goals, adjusting programs more dynamically, and integrating more wearables data[1].

Peloton IQ usage numbers measure different populations

Several figures show usage widening from period to period, but each one counts something different.

  • At the start, nearly 500,000 members had started a plan by the end of the quarter. That figure counts Personalized Plans, before the rename[3].
  • In the first quarter after Peloton IQ rolled out, 46% of active members engaged with their performance insights and recommendations, and engagement with personalized plans among All-Access members, who own connected equipment, was up more than 10% from the prior quarter[4].
  • The latest period switched the basis to monthly active users: more than 50% of monthly active users are engaging with Peloton IQ's training recommendations[1].

One share uses active members as its denominator and the other uses monthly active users. The company defined neither term and disclosed neither base. The two percentages cannot be subtracted from each other, and neither can be converted into a number of members.

How usage could reach the financials

If this usage is going to show up in the financial statements, the most likely route is subscription revenue, and the link in between is retention of paying members. A secondary route is the share of sales taken by premium equipment such as the Plus models.

On the first route, members who work out more often would be more willing to renew, which would make subscription revenue more stable. On the November 7, 2025 call, Peloton said workouts, days and time per member were all rising in October, but management attributed that to investments in both AI and community software, so it cannot be credited to Peloton IQ alone[2].

On the second route, management said camera-based personal coaching is an important reason consumers buy the new equipment[4], and in the latest period it added that Peloton IQ has become the feature of most interest to potential customers[1]. Neither statement came with a share or a unit figure. To date the company has not tied any usage figure to retention, churn, subscription revenue or margin.

What is confirmed, and what is still unquantified

What can be confirmed today is that Peloton's AI personalized coach has grown from a single training-plan feature into a product layer that covers every member type and is used by more than half of monthly active users. What remains unquantified is the economic effect: from engagement to retention, and from retention to subscription revenue, no step has a public number. Only if Peloton later discloses the difference in retention or churn between members who use Peloton IQ and members who do not would this engagement story have the basis to be read as a subscription revenue story.
